Giant petrel at Cullernose Point, Northumberland

After hearing that Mark Newsome had seen a giant petrel during a seawatch at Whitburn, Co. Durham, earlier in the afternoon of 2nd July 2019, I decided to spend that evening seawatching at Cullernose Point in Northumberland. Cullernose Point is a shortish but quite high promontory of rock that extends into the North Sea and, being a good height above sea level, it provides a view into the wave troughs which birds can often disappear in when viewed from lower levels (plate 467).
